Filmfest Eberswalde
Filmfest Eberswalde
The small town of Eberswalde held annually for four years, a film festival, will be shown at the short and documentary films from around the world. I could not, of course I miss it so I was last Thursday evening with my roommate and two other girls in the Eberswalde Paul-Wunderlich-Haus. There, a not-too-large group of film fans had gathered, including, unfortunately, surprisingly few students. In
20.00 clock block six films were shown. The short description I want to reflect briefly
Block 9 - Thursday, 10.11.2007, 20:00 clock
My little boy R: Matt from Schemm, Dtld, short film, 20 min, summer '34.. Eric fell in love with Wolfgang, who is with the SA. They meet secretly one morning and be surprised.
GABRA2 R:. Jan Karpinski, Dtld, short film, 11 min, Ole is being harassed by a pharmaceutical company because it was a patented gene possesses. Surgery or license fees?
tradition R:. Ladkani Peter, Dtld, short film, 9 min A small oriental boy and his sister are trapped in ancient traditions. Both will receive a gift - with fatal consequences.
Video3000 R:. J. Edelmann, Dtld, animation, 5 min He is thrilled about its new "Video 3000". Only the remote spins.
Recognize myself R: Eva-Marie Elg, UK, short film, 19 min, Oteng A man is trapped in his memories, unable to deal with the rigidity of the present.
The black column R: Andreas Schaap, Germany, short film, 18 min The making of a fictional German comic book adaptation.
I must say I was again amazed at how much content can you put in 5 to 20 minutes movie. So much emotion, excitement, wit and depth in many 120-minute film can not be found. Short films are like poetry, so I thought especially in the film "Recognize Myself", a British competition entry, which is about a young man who is trapped in his memories and feelings, not even himself knows and seems unable to . live At the center of the strip his relationship with his girlfriend whom he loves but he is not with his problems and his own inability to be life stresses of life, like. He became separated from her, even though they love each other. A very sad and thoughtful film.
were as thoughtful least, My little boy 'and' tradition '. While the viewer has the first film that actually end from the beginning the only possible end in mind was 'tradition' in this respect is absolutely shocking. I want to say now no longer, but if anyone should have the opportunity to see one of these films.
The other contributions were more oblique. Actually, I can also tell nothing much to see that on a short film does not so real.
"Video 3000" is a very funny animation movie that you can watch it too, namely here.
"Gabra 2" humor of the blackest kind, very macabre. And "The black column" ... well, this film probably split the mind. As, the media satire "satirizes" The black column "once the current widespread, Making-Of" widget Strip, which made film, actors, shooting and action on sensational way to the last detail scrutinized and praised to the skies be. I have rarely laughed so much, but many were not at all on this post. Thus, for just arguing about art. In each
Case, it was an entertaining evening. Unfortunately, it gets much too rare opportunity to see short films.

Audiobook Review - "Burnt by Andreas Eschbach"
belongings from my brother borrowed a great audio book, "Burnt Out" by Andreas Eschbach, which - as I have just read - is available only this year.
I had heard "a trillion dollars" for radio and read the short story "A Trillion €" from the same author and was now curious to see what was waiting for me.
The story picks up a hot topic, namely the scarcity of oil resources. Eschbach records in his scientific thriller a picture of the end of the oil age, how could it not come suddenly. The plausibility the scientific background with which the author explains the sudden shortage of oil are, I can not judge, it is clear, however, that he the many aspects associated with this scenario in exciting activities frame takes up and discussed. Alternative energy, heat insulation of houses, energy saving, return to local shopping and carpooling are just a few variants, which react with the people in the new situation.
come to conspiracy theories, crime stories and even scientific theories about 'oil'.
is also interesting that the reader or listener an insight into the Arab world, because Saudi Arabia, which lives off oil, is a convenient stage of history. As far as I correctly remember the stories my brother, everyday life in the Saudi Kingdom is also described quite accurately, owing in part to be quite shocking.
The plot tells the story of Mark Westermann, a young economist from Germany, which he is to bring as Marc S. Westman in the United States from the small office worker to a millionaire. And with the OPI and OPM: Other Peoples Ideas and Other Peoples Money. Markus Westermann finds both, but that his problems really begin until an ...
I liked the audio book is very good. Like all stories of this kind would I am not, however, work through the book. "Burnout" is entertaining and exciting, excited, in fact - would like the author according to own statements purpose too - to reflect on the problem at.

Afghanistan - strange world
early on Saturday after meeting with
Theriak I passed by the Paul-Loebe house. The Paul Loebe house is one of the houses of parliament in Berlin, where deputies and committee offices, and meeting rooms are located. It is adjacent to the Reichstag building and a stone's throw across the river Spree from new main train station. Through the large glass facade can be seen in the basement of the building stunning photos from Afghanistan, but unfortunately the house was closed on Saturday.
Yesterday, I am purely by chance came by - I had just missed my train to Eberswalde - and lo and behold: the house was open, the issue still to be considered for exactly one day and I had my identity card there. "The more you need in Berlin", the security officer did the two less fortunate to report from me, who could identify not.
But I was in the middle of Berlin a short traveling to the Hindu Kush, in this amazing landscape of high mountains and deep Gorges, vast, empty plains and in narrow valleys compressive villages and towns.
The exhibition's theme was "The Bundeswehr in a different world - Pictures of Afghanistan" and so has not failed to mention providing what services the armed forces and the ISAF forces: medical aid, reconstruction of villages, schools, water supply, education .
But the more intriguing were the unique landscapes and large portraits of men, women and children.
Pictures of New Year 'Nau-Roz', which is celebrated in March, and the wild riders Buzkashi game are shown in which the riders - the group can be as large - try a dead goat on the huge field to pick up in the desert and taken before the judges. Rapidly!
The exhibition was truly a unique experience. Unfortunately, today is the last day. So I was really lucky.
Who wants to see pictures can take a look at the press of the Historical Museum of Speyer a zip file (at the bottom of the page, 7 MB) with pictures of the photographer Helmut Schulze. It's not all pictures in the exhibition, my favorites are also present, but the images are still fascinating, for example equal to the first "Blue Lakes". Perhaps the images are
yes but also once again shown elsewhere. Worth a visit this exhibition for sure! Yet another

Book Review - "Devices and Desires by PD James
P. D. James crime novel… This one I found at the Lions Club Book Bazaar in Mainz, and even though I still have more than an overcrowded bookshelf of books waiting to be read I just couldn’t resist. It was worth it!
“Devices and Desires” is one of P. D. James’ earlier novels. It was published in 1989. Sometimes I had the feeling that this fact is noticeable while reading the book, her style developed since then, I guess.
“Devices and Desires” is set on the Norfolk coast, on a fictitious headland called Larksoken. Here Commander Adam Dalgliesh retreats to the old mill of his deceased aunt, just after having published his second volume of poetry. At that time Norfolk is haunted by the Norfolk Whistler, a serial killer who murders young women at night. It is during a stroll at the beach that Adam Dalgliesh finds the body of yet another strangled woman with an L cut into her forehead. Hilary Robarts, Acting Administrative Officer of Larksoken Nuclear Power Station, seems to be the Whistler’s latest and last victim. But is she?
In this novel Adam Dalgliesh is not the investigating officer but a witness, therefore the point of view is constantly changing between various persons, almost all of them possible suspects with a variety of potential motives for murdering the unpopular Hilary Robarts.
As always I loved the way P. D. James manages to throw light on aspects of social interaction between men as well as on current socio-political topics. "Devices and Desires" is a good reading matter, not extremely thrilling but entertaining enough. I'll offer it
as a book ring. If you'd like to participate, please tell me or via PM in the German BookCrossing Forum

How Long Is Heated Whole Milk Good For
shoes, St. Jacques and St. Stephan
Behind me is a wonderful weekend, this is a good friend have spent here in Mainz.
On Saturday we spent with detailed stroll in the city, with coffee and croissants for the second breakfast, shopping - you should not believe how fast and satisfying shopping can be: pure in the shop, discovered a pair of shoes, tried on, bought. Booyah!
evening we went to the movies yet, "St. Jaques - pilgrims in French" (Film Review) follows.
And the day yesterday was marked by the 'day of Heritage '. First, we were the Mainz 'Roman Theatre' on. Put this excavation can be seen very well to the left bank of the Rhine from Mainz travels to the south.
The Mainz Roman theater was the largest of its kind north of the Alps. It was between BC 12/13. and some 39 AD. built. The stage house, which is not able to get - here are now driving the ICE - is 42 m wide. The spectators round, which connects to the ascending slope, has a diameter of 116 m.
is fascinating that the theater has been discovered again until 1884, when the city of Mainz expanded the former railway station, but at that time was not an archaeologist present and so were discovered Although remnants of the Wall recorded and mapped, but not recognized as a vestige of a Roman theater.
recognized this 30 years later an archaeologist from the few remaining walls in a 80 cm wide and 4 m deep trench channel realized what was hidden there in the ground.
are now exposed large parts of the theater and it will work even further. Anyone who comes along once in Mainz, should be the bare look!
The Roman Theatre Mainz
directly next to it there is a second 'monument', the Citadel. This military construction in the mid-17th Century built. About the history of the Citadel, I can not tell so much, but it was exciting in the context to get an itinerary along the fortress walls in the underground passages within these thick walls insight. Then we still have
visit another highlight of Mainz, the Church of St. Stephen, whose church window 1978-1985 was designed by Marc Chagall. These are in typical Chagall-blue windows give the church a very special atmosphere.

What bliss, what joy!
were this evening my friend and I at the outdoor festival at the castle Hellenstein in Heidenheim. We had a trip to Corpus Christi, we have made use of my internship company on the castle witnessed the rehearsals for the opera festival and were both instantly hooked was: was this year in Heidenheim Mozart's "Abduction from the Seraglio" in the program, my absolute favorite opera. Especially the overture has it done to me.
And so we have made for even more rapidly after hours from Stuttgart to the one hour drive to Heidenheim. A parking lot was despite a huge run of visitors to the castle hill and quickly found the way to the castle was not too far. But I was grateful for the sweaters, blankets and pillows, which I had packed, for between the old walls, it was despite high summer temperatures during the day not just warm, and the opera should be yes to drag on into the night.
We had this idea to get hold of really the last places: all up in the very last row, virtually 'on course'. But that was not too bad, because we already had no heads in front of us. Luck was that it did not rain, in a double sense, because our cards were forfeited in the rain. We had 'fair-weather maps', that we in the rain did not even have to pay.
The old banqueting hall of the castle Hellenstein has already by itself a great setting: the stage is in front of the ruins of the Knights' Hall, windows and doors are integrated into the stage.
The story about Bassa Selim and Osmin, Blonde and Pedrillo, Constanze and Belmonte was put in a modern Turkey: the guards Bassa Selim's house in costumes, reminiscent of the uniforms of the Colombian drug mafia wore black, with dark sunglasses and guns. And entered the conductor, as 'El Dirigente' (actually English 'el director', but also by the sense dirigente fits her better) in camouflage, combat boots and a burgundy, diagonally mounted the podium cap. Absolutely stylish!
The history of the Abduction from the Seraglio is actually quite simple: Constanze, her maid Blonde and Pedrillo servants have been abducted and are in the house of Pasha Selim held. His servant Osmin guarded them. Bassa Selim tried to win the love Constanze, but the Irishman is mourning fiance and wants more of the Death. Blondes, who also defend against the advances must Osmin, comforting her. Then comes Belmonte, Constanze's fiance. Together with Pedrillo plans of the abduction of women from demSerail and surreptitiously disguised himself as an architect access to the house of Pasha Selim.
The two men try to make Osmin tired with alcohol and then want to liberate women. No sooner had the pair meet again kindled the debate as to whether they were true. In the end, wins the trust, but Osmin is awake now and caught the four on the run.
At the end it Bassa Selim was a benevolent man who is free and Constanze, the four leaves, much to the dismay of Osmin, which as in the most glaring Colors had envisioned just would kill the four best.
It was a wonderful evening where I was tied up for hours all of the action, the music and stage design. Although not every sung word was understandable, but the action was still with you and it was definitely a wonderful experience.
was especially beautiful evening, the initial mood, with a beautiful sunset, which is then in a clear, cool night went on, which got a very special charm, and rose over the Ritersaal a nearly full moon. Unique!

Does Freezing Yogurt Kill The Cultures
Back again ...
So, my friends, after a long and sometimes involuntary abstinence Livejournal I am now back back and will be first time in the form of back dated entries, the last two months, to reminisce.
has changed a lot with me. I've moved and now live and work for a month in Mainz, the beautiful city on the Rhine. Here I am doing an internship at a publishing house again, but this time with more editorial work, which I enjoy. Anyone interested can find further details in my comments. From now on, should work with the journaln again regular.
Looking forward it!

Book Review - The Colour of Magic
The incompetent wizard Rincewind, directed the Unseen University, is an arrant coward. And yet it is Rincewind, the condemned is Zweiblum to accompany the first tourists to the Discworld, as a tour guide and protect. The two unlikely companions on a dangerous slide into the next and appear only with more luck than skill to get back out alive.
"The Colour of Magic" is a strange book, as this whole fantasy universe, the Discworld is completely slanted. Imagine only: the world is flat, resting on the backs of four elephants which in turn attached to the shell of the turtle are case-A'Tuin, which swims slowly through the interstellar ocean.
Someone once told me: either you love the Discworld books, or you can they can not stand. Well, my absolute favorite book is 'The Colour of Magic' certainly not, but it is definitely in the ranks of the books that I like very much.
alone completely off the details with which Terry Pratchett describes his world, and the absolutely weird humor, which often gave me loud fits of laughter while reading this book make it a very special one. So what was yet to come.

[book ring] PD James - The Murder Room (s)
For more than half a year I am now at BookCrossing here and now I have finally decided to forward to the next level issued.
I have been so many great books read and book to bookrays struggle attended, I now even want to pass something.
PD James was the author, are landed from the most books with me, and so must now go one of her more recent books on travel, so for anyone interested is:
PD James The Murder Room (s )
Or the forum entry
Short Summary: The setting
of this excellent thriller by PD James is a small, peculiar museum in Hampstead. One of the trustees of the museum is being killed, but his murder is only the first in a row of three.
Interestingly, one room of the museum is called the 'Murder Room' showing pieces of evidence and other souvenirs of prominent inter-war murders.
Is the room of any importance to Commander Adam Dalgliesh's investigations?
***
If anyone tries to read along? Please report either here or PM me. You know this very clearly. ;-)
Happy Crossing!

Does Megan Goode Wear A Weave
Commercial Pecan Sheller Machine
I'm beyond help ...
I always knew it: BookCrossing is highly addictive. Today I couldn't resist: I had to go hunting for three books in a carpark of my district. It was worth it, I can assure you, for a number of reasons. ;-)
First of all: The Books:
1. Jane Eyre by Charlott Brontë
2. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
3. My little Blue Dress by Bruno Maddox
It isn't as if I was short of reading material. On the contrary my TBR-pile is constantly growing instead of decreasing. But anyway... It's addictive, I told you. ;-)
And then, BookHunting is always funny, as well:
So I went to the carpark. The book was well hidden on the ducting above a -luckily empty - carpark. Well, since it is above a carpark the ducting is relatively high, just below the ceiling. And so there I was, standing on tiptoes, carefully balancing, and blindly groping for any hidden books high above my head. Had to have been a funny sight.
In any case the carpark's cartaker came and asked whether I needed help, whether I had lost something or was looking for anything in particular. You can imagine how surprised he was when I told him that someone had hidden a book there on the dusty ducting in his carpark!
Well, but he wasn't at all negative about it. Even told me to give his regards to the sender of the book and tell him that he might also give the book directly to him so that he could forward it to the addressee. I think he enjoyed the surprsing evening encounter just as much as I did. *gg*
BookCrossing just is a lot of fun, guys!

Words To Write On An Engagement Card
I'm blue dabadee Dabadi
Blue. What other colour could my soul possibly be painted? ;) Blue is my favourite colour. My eyes are blue, as is my car. "Blue are the feelings that live inside me..." Actually, I do like this meme pretty much. I can find myself in that description...
You might guess that there's only one song that I might be listening to right now.
And guess what? That song reminds me of a wonderful year: the year 1999.
1999 is the year I graduated from school, the year my goddaughter was born. I spent three great weeks in Ireland in 1999 and started my studies. It's the year of the eclipse, too, even though I couldn't really watch it here...
What a heap of reminiscences this little meme brought back right now. *gg*
Thank you,
ferporcel , for the meme. That's been a great treat!

Film Review - The Namesake
Have you you ever thought about how you came by your name? Why have you called your parents 'Henning' or 'Judith', 'Franziska', 'Daniel', 'Chris' or 'Sebastian'? Does your way because your parents found the name beautiful?
Or is there a story behind it?
you might have a 'namesake' to which your parents thinking when they chose your name? Yes? Then it's a little as the young Nikhil "Gogol Ganguli.
'The Namesake', the title of the movie that I saw yesterday is, namely, in German 'The Namesake' and so is also the name of the exceptional young American, son of Bengali immigrants to the United States, in the heart of this wonderful film.
When the boy is born, his parents Ashoke and Ashima Ganguli only a short time in the United States and are not already familiar with American bureaucracy. So it happens that they can not wait two weeks with the naming of the letter to his grandfather arrives from Calcutta, as they had in mind it really. You have to give the boy a name immediately, and now is the little 'Gogol, after the Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, who for the parents, especially his father Ashoke, has a special meaning. But for Gogol it is not always easy to bear that name ...
Even this little episode, so to speak, which is the starting point of the central thread of this film shows in many aspects, the film picks up again and again:
live as immigrants in a foreign country? How do they deal with an alien culture? As with their own and so-distant home? How are the children of the second generation? As they are rooted in the culture of their parents? Do they feel as an Indian? As an American?
I want to tell at this point not really too much to this movie offers much too much movement, surprising, and yes even funny.
Especially nice contrast between the two worlds, the warm, colorful, vibrant India and the cold, gray and dreary America is held at the beginning of the film in the image. Only towards the later, when the family einlebt in the new home, blurred this contrast. Very nicely designed.
Have a look at the film. 'The Namesake' is really worth seeing.

Book Review - Artemis Fowl I & II
"Artemis Fowl" - a book I wanted to read from time to time, just because it was so long in the Kitchen.
I do not know what I expected when I finally got to read, certainly not a story in the fantasy, adventure, thriller and comedy in such fascinating way connected like "Artemis Fowl". The book - or rather, the books are exciting, imaginative and very funny, very original, the plot.
'Artemis Fowl' is the beginning of the first volume of a boy of 12 years, but he is by far not an ordinary boy. Artemis is the youngest member of an Irish crime family, was taken to make matters worse, a tragic way to their property. Artemis's father is considered lost, maybe even dead, so it's up to Artemis to restore the family honor, and procure the money back.
fact that Artemis does not leave here with a filthy bank robbery, but equally the people of the underworld a Quantity Elves Gold blackmailed speaks to the cunning and the criminal energy of this boy and for the creativity of its creator, the author Eoin Colfer.
The world of underground, such as Eoin Colfer describes us is fantastic and yet not so, how they might know from other fantasy worlds, or it is commonly imagined.
There are the elves, little creature with pointed ears, which use the natural magic, as well as the winged fairies and gnomes, a totally cool way, that by digging the earth about the nature of an earthworm and eject their digestive system from time to large gas clouds must one not to be underestimated destructiveness . Have The base police can rely on shuttles that fly through the clouds on magma core of the earth, and has the most modern telecommunications technologies, as well as defensive techniques against us, the above-ground, like something recount the time hold or view. And that's not all!
So much can be said that Colfer describes this unknown Wetlt 'among us' absolutely humorous and affectionate detail, vividly portrays his characters and sometimes almost caricature and introduces the reader to plenty of tension-packed and adventurous chapter.
'Artemis Fowl' is a children's and young people, this can be observed quite clearly. It does not have the complexity and depth, such as a 'Lord of the Rings', are guaranteed for the almost 550 pages of the first two volumes of reading fun and excitement, even for older readers.
hats I liked it!

How Many Personal Leave Days Can You Have?
anticipation of the Second
Another concert, but something else: Today I got my ticket for the concert of the 'Fantastic Four & Special Guest' on 1 December in Oberhausen get. Juhe and cheering, shouting and rejoicing! I am all day today on clouds hovered. I can not express properly, how pleased I am. The class is so!
is only my second 'proper' pop concert and my first with standing room, so I may be out of sheer joy, a bit out of the house. And that's me. Three times

Book Review - Berlin Blues by Sven Regener
It seems to compensate, than I would have very quickly two months reading deficiency, because today I once read quickly by a few months in the life of Frank Lehmann. Whether this is a book tip is worth? Somehow the book to all people already know. I recommend it to continue anyway, all of which this book is so far gone by, as I do.
So I added "Herr Lehmann" very much. Well, it's a strange book, I must say. I always waited that finally something is happening, which of course is nonsense, Mr Lehmann's happened - sorry Frank - really enough.
is impressive how you think about the everyday life of a rather vile to describe thoroughly normal late twenties so exciting. Whether it is absolutely delicious scene with the dog, the phone call with her mother, which seemed all too familiar to me, or this strange Bars talks in which all talk to each other somehow.
And, yes, I'm glad that Frank Lehmann: exercise its sometimes quite sober, a little inattentive nature of the world, this hair-raising purposes, that he makes and how he himself always reflected. I like to argue his way rumrechten could say that already, and this rather affectionate way that he cares about his friends and his parents. Adorable, I'd say. And I 'd him and the others 'know' or like to take a minute, I've learned a bit about it already.
Is now a good book? I'd say, yes. Not a valuable book, perhaps, but what makes a book is inherently valuable, but only the eye of the reader. And for me at least it was very entertaining to me sometimes if not a mirror, but then held up a magnifying glass, and it also inspired me to think. However, a really good book, in my eyes.
**** *
Now I watch the movie at times, which should be even better. And that's saying something.
Who else has interest: In 'Herr Lehmann' it is a BookRay. Writes me but ne PM if you want to read along. However, the book now I will still sometimes pass among my friends.
